After hearing Çrémad-Bhägavatam, Mahäräja Parékñit’s mother, Uttarä, approached him in a secluded place and requested him to extract the essence of what Çukadeva Gosvämé had taught him and reveal it to her. That essence is called bhägavatämåtam, which is herein presented by Çréla Sanätana Gosvämé.
